EcoCycle is an AI-powered waste intelligence solution designed to transform how buildings understand and manage waste. Using computer vision and data-driven insights, it tracks waste patterns, supports better segregation, and connects waste data with carbon reduction goals to enable a more circular built environment.
RESEARCH
The research explored waste management challenges within the built environment, focusing on limited waste visibility, poor segregation, and the disconnect between waste data and carbon reduction goals. Insights from circular economy research and existing waste systems highlighted the need for a more measurable and actionable approach.
Methodology
A human-centred and systems-thinking approach was used to map the waste journey, identify key stakeholders, and uncover gaps in existing processes. The concept was developed through secondary research, journey mapping, ideation, and iterative prototyping, integrating AI computer vision and data intelligence.
Results
The outcome was EcoCycle—an AI-powered waste intelligence concept that identifies visible waste, tracks disposal patterns, and transforms data into actionable insights. The solution supports improved segregation, smarter waste decisions, and alignment with broader circular economy and decarbonisation goals.
